Improve Indoor Air Quality

According to Harvard Health, Improving indoor air quality can help avoid asthma flare-ups, allergy symptoms and keep you breathing easily.

During this COVID-19 pandemic, keeping it clean, wash your hands, social distancing is a message we hearing over and over again. That's all great advice for when you are venturing out, but how do we keep the indoors feeling as fresh as the outdoors while living in self-isolation?

Keeping it Clean

One of the easiest ways to keep our living spaces clean is having the right cleaning supplies and tools on hand at all times. Not only is it habit forming to grab and "go clean" but it eventually will take less than half an hour to stay on top of your cleaning schedule. Yes! We mentioned the dreaded Schedule.

Schedules are such a great way to get kids involved in cleaning, particularly the little ones! Ask for help when vacuuming. Have them pick up things from the floor or move kitchen chairs, lift up cushions so you can vacuum under them. This type of teamwork teaches them that vacuuming isn't just turning on the machine and going but there is a correct way to do it.

Cleaning a window? Spray a little area on the bottom of the patio window and let them clean that section while you do the outside, makes it fun while they learn a new skill! How can you lose?

Changing Air Filters

How often you change your air filters depends on a few things. The size of your home determines the frequency. For larger homes being that they circulate larger volumes of air require frequent changes compared to a smaller home. Please remember to follow the instructions included with your filter for guidance on the recommended changing schedule.

When was the last time you checked your air filters?

Pets

Furbabies are the best until they start to shed, track in dirt and muck from outside then permeate your home with that special, I have pets, odour! Besides the typical suggestions to vacuum, changing air filters, or washing the floors, there are powerful odour neutralizers that work hard on removing pet stains and lingering odours.

Indoor Plants

Who doesn't love greenery in their home? Not only are indoor plants a beautiful way to bring happiness indoors but they also are good for improved air quality in the home. While slightly, every method adds up.

According to the David Suzuki website, these plants are best and easy to care for in your home. Spider plants, Peace lilies, Snake plants, Elephant ears, Weeping figs, Rubber plants, and Bamboo palms. Throw away those fake plants, they just collect dust and odour collectors.
